Restoring Communities through Restorative Justice.

At Northern Ireland Alternatives, we’ve been helping communities through our work in Restorative Justice.

What we do

Northern Ireland Alternatives (NIA) was set up to provide communities access to restorative justice processes, providing community based collaborative solutions to the hurt and harm caused by low level crime and anti-social behaviour.

Restorative Justice

  • Restorative Justice offers a non-violent, human response to the hurt and harm anti-social behaviour inflicts upon its victims and the community as a whole.
  •  It seeks to heal wounds, repair broken relationships, and work towards a better future for everyone.

What we do

Northern Ireland Alternatives (NIA) is a government accredited restorative justice programme that aims to promote and develop non-violent community responses to the issues of low-level crime and anti-social behaviour in areas across Northern Ireland.

We currently have branches in North Belfast, Greater Shankill, East Belfast, South Belfast and North Down.

Our services

Northern Ireland Alternatives (NIA) is a community safety organisation that since its inception in 2000 has delivered all of its services based on a model of restorative practice. It addresses the problems of low-level crime and anti-social behaviour by attempting to fix the broken relationships between the victim, the offender and the community. NIA is accredited by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and has protocols in place with a number of statutory organisations that inform and enhance its collaborative work with the statutory sector at community level.

Restorative Justice

“A process whereby all parties with a stake in a particular offence come together to resolve collectively how to deal with the aftermath of the offence and it’s implications for the future”
